Standardized Testing

OELPA
The Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment (OELPA) is the state test used to determine an English learner’s proficiency level. The OELPA is aligned to Ohio’s Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade English Language Proficiency Standards. It is used to meet the federal requirement of an annual assessment of English proficiency measuring listening, speaking reading and writing.

The OELPA is required for all English learners. The results help track a student’s progress towards grade level English proficiency.

SAT
The Stanford Achievement Test (SAT) is a standardized test in multiple subject areas. Test results can describe how a student did on the test compared with other students in the same grade across the United States who took the test at about the same time in the school year. Test results give teachers an objective picture of how an average child in a specific grade is progressing in school. It also shows whether a student excels in one or more subject areas or needs to improve in certain areas.
STAR Math/Reading
STAR Reading and STAR Math are standardized, computer-adaptive assessments by Renaissance Learning, Inc. Students are tested at the beginning, middle and end of each school year to monitor progress in reading and math. Results indicate learning and grade levels for each student. Teachers are able to monitor a student’s ability regarding which learning standards they have achieved and which they need to practice and master.
Fountas and Pinnell
The Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System is a standardized reading assessment program that is used from Kindergarten through Eighth Grade to identify the instructional and independent reading levels of all students. It also documents student progress through one-on-one formative and summative assessments.
Teachers are able to observe and quantify student reading behaviors, comprehension levels and make informed decisions regarding learning strategies for students.
